One purchase showing twice

In shortHotels, car rentals, and fuel stations often place a temporary hold first and take the real payment later. That looks like two charges, but it's one purchase in two stages. A genuine duplicate is rare, and if you've got one, we'll reverse it.

Here's the pattern behind most "I was charged twice" moments. Some businesses don't know your final bill when you first pay. A hotel doesn't know your minibar total at check-in. A fuel pump doesn't know how much you'll fill. So they do it in two stages:

  • First, a temporary hold for an estimated amount, just to confirm the card works.
  • Later, the real charge for the actual amount, once it's known.

In your transaction list, that pair can look exactly like a double charge. It isn't. The hold either drops off by itself or turns into the real charge. So if the two entries are from a hotel, a car rental, or a fuel station, that's almost certainly your answer, and no money is lost.

Now, if the two charges are from an ordinary shop, identical, and both fully completed? That could be the rare genuine duplicate. Send us both transactions in chat, we'll check the records, and if it's real, we reverse the extra one.
