When an account holder has died

In shortWe are sorry. An executor or administrator with the right documents can settle the account. Send them in writing and we will guide you through it.

We are sorry for your loss, and we want to make this as straightforward as it can be.

An account can only be settled by someone with legal authority to act for the estate, usually the executor named in a will or an administrator appointed by a court. Being a relative, on its own, does not give access to the account, and we cannot make an exception however clear the situation seems. That protects the estate as much as it protects us.

What we need

  • The death certificate.
  • Proof that you are the executor or administrator, such as a grant of probate or letters of administration.
  • Your own identification.

Send these in writing to legal@ortix.com. Do not send them through live chat; the team that reviews them works from that address.

What happens next

Once the documents are reviewed, the account is closed and any remaining balance is returned to the estate. We will tell you what account details we need for that. Nothing is paid out on the strength of a conversation, only on the documents.

If you are not the executor but need to tell us someone has died, message us. We can note it on the account so nobody is contacted in a way that hurts.
