How multi-currency balances work
In shortYour account holds a separate balance for each currency, side by side. Money stays in the currency it arrived in until you convert it yourself, or until your card converts just enough to complete a payment.
Picture one account with a shelf for each currency. Dollars sit as dollars. Euros sit as euros. Nothing gets converted behind your back just because it arrived.
Conversion happens in exactly two situations, and only these two:
- You convert on purpose, moving money between your own balances at a rate you see and approve first.
- Your card needs to finish a payment in a currency whose balance is empty. Then it converts just enough from another balance so the payment goes through instead of declining.
Every conversion is one you make in the moment. There are no scheduled or recurring conversions running in the background, so nothing ever converts without you.
Which currencies you can hold depends on your region. The app shows your real list, and everyone has USD as the baseline.
